Medieval, time travel, enemies to lovers, forced marriage. Any of those tropes your catnip? Then this book is for you. I loved Gaston (though I couldn't get the Beauty and the Beast song out of my head) is every inch the knight but the murder if his father and brother have put him firmly on the path for revenge. His king has other plans and instead orders him to marry his enemies ward to force peace between the two.Celine Fontaine is hurled through time to the middle ages and right into the arms and the bed of a dark, beautiful knight. He confuses her for the woman he's supposed to marry and suspects her of collusion with her uncle to do away with him so they can both get their hands on his holdings. He's determined to stay away from the bewitching Celine and she's determined to get back to her own time because for Celine getting back to the future is a matter of life and death. But fate has other plans and unbeknownst to them both their epic love story has already been written.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'm so glad for the advent of indie digital publishing so that author's can republish gems like these that have been out of print for decades. Forever His is a paranormal time travel written before it was a thing and it is epic in scope. A love story, an adventure full of intrigue, medieval lore, sexy love scenes and a hero who is a product of his time but hides a sensitive loving heart. I can't remember reading such a larger than life hero in any book recently. They just don't write them that way anymore, I suppose. The characters are all fully fleshed out, medieval France comes to vibrant life and all threads are nicely tied up at the end. My only problem with the book was that I thought Gaston' s mistrust of Celine and her motives dragged on too long and became repetitive but once the book gets over that hurdle it is an incredibly fast paced, exciting and swooningly romantic tale. Highly recommended.

When Celine Fontaine was a child, she dreamed of a love equal to that of one of her ancestors, Gaston de Varennes and his wife, known only as Lady R. Sir Gaston had his and his wife's entwined initials carved over every doorway in several chateaux in the area of France where her family owned property. Recovering from being shot in the back and being advised that she still had a bullet fragment that could cause her to die if it wasn't removed, she begged off staying at a 1993 New Year's Eve party and retired to her bedroom in the older Gothic part of the chateau. Standing at her window that night during an eclipse of the moon, she suddenly found herself falling backward and awakening in the year 1300 and in the bed occupied by none other than the legendary Sir Gaston. She is mistakenly identified as Christiane Fontaine, a relative of Sir Gaston's most bitter enemy, even though she has tried to convince Sir Gaston that she is from the future.
This is a time travel story like none I have ever read before. The method of the time travel is unique; Celine's interractions with Sir Gaston are not the usual "immediately fall in lust and hop in bed" story; her dealings with the other occupants of the chateau are refreshingly different; and the villian is truly vile as well as a slick operator, who also thinks that she is his relative.
If you're looking for an excellect time travel romance story, this is it! There is no swearing, no graphic sex (there are several well done sex scenes) and no typos that I noticed. All in all, I absolutely loved this story and wish that Ms. Thacker would write more like this. She has several opportunities to write about characters in this book even.
I must admit time travel novels is one of my least favorite genre. It rarely ends satisfactory for me, but this one surprised me. When I read that this novel won the NATIONAL READERS CHOICE AWARD BEST HISTORICAL ROMANCE OF THAT YEAR (been in my library forever), well I decided to take a chance. Also, because I have read other books by this author and enjoy her style.
If you are looking for a clean historical romance, pass this up. It has many descriptive lovemaking scenes, within marriage. I didn't find erotic but on the steamy side for sure.
I did get somewhat tired of all the rehashing of who she said she was, and others disagreeing, made the story drag a lot, but I only lowered 1/2 star because I enjoyed the unique take on this.
We have many twists, suspenseful moments, a nasty villain, passion, romance that builds slowly and a satisfying ending. No cheating, no cliffhanger and a very bumpy journey to HEA.
I am not going into the premise as many have explained it better than I can, just what you may get out of reading this unique story line by a great story teller. (ljb)
